This three-hour history tour explores, in detail, the 168-year history of the Missouri State Penitentiary and the history of penal eras in the United States, as well as the 1954 riot and other important events in the legacy of the prison.
This tour covers everything that is included in the two-hour tour, like Housing Unit 1, Housing Unit 3, Housing Unit 4 (one of the oldest original buildings still standing on the property, built in 1868), the dungeon cells, and the gas chamber.
The three-hour tour goes more in-depth and points out additional areas such as the Women’s Unit, death row cells, information about the Industry area, Housing Units 2 and 5, and the recently restored Centennial Cells*.
