Ready to learn the fascinating story of the MSP? This tour discusses the 168-year history of the Missouri State Penitentiary and covers both the prison’s history itself and the history of penal eras in the United States, as well as prison reform.
On this tour, you will be guided through the Control Center in Housing Unit 1, as well as Housing Unit 4 (one of the oldest original buildings still standing on the property, built in 1868) and the dungeon cells. You will also tour Housing Unit 3 and the gas chamber, where many notorious inmates were put to death after eating their last meal.
Be ready to learn the history of the Missouri State Penitentiary, including information on infamous inmates, the Riot of 1954, escape attempts, female inmates, and much more!
